Lovely Daze is a curatorial journal of artists’ writings and artworks published twice a year in limited editions by artist Charwei Tsai. The publication aspires to provide a platform for artists to present, first hand, their writings and artworks and to explore conversely how theories substantiate practice, and thoughts corporealize through writing and making art.

Founded in 2005, the journal has up to now featured 9 issues and 4 special editions with more than 50 personal projects and texts by artists, writers and other contributors. The complete sets of Lovely Daze are in the library collections of Tate Modern, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; MoMA, New York; MACBA, Barcelona; and Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane. In addition to the publication, Lovely Daze organizes public talks, music performances, and participates in various exhibitions and book fairs internationally including: NY Art Book Fair at MoMA P.S.1, LA Art Book Fair at LA MoCA (both in 2013); “Millennium Magazines” at MoMA, New York (2012); “Longe Daqui, Aqui Mesmo” library project at the 29th Sao Paulo Bienal, Brazil; talk at Bibliothèque Kandinsky, Centre Pompidou, Paris; Tokyo Art Book Fair, and others.

Issue 7 is a double issue: one side edited by the publisher and the reverse side by guest editor Alessandra Sandrolini reflecting on a shared topic.

The eighth issue: Pilgrimage takes us through…

…a journey on the scaffolds

…a prayer with a lotus in hand

…a capture of the in-between

…a release of light

…a tour of Paris in red

…a parade of death & torture

…a landscape of passing memories

…a stare into a fictional space

…a spill on the ground

…a realm of melancholy

…an eclipse in colors

…a life in love & beauty

…and a walk in the forest

Issue 9 takes you on a Walk in the Forest…

Issue 10: Travelers and Magicians is inspired by a Bhutanese film of the same name…

Issue 11 is prompted by the title of a Mongolian popular song where the horse is recognized as a source of empowerment and a connection to nature.

Under Influence is a special edition of artist’s writings, artworks, and videos published by Lovely Daze and Talents. The cooperative synergy of two unique visual mediums attempts to draw readers into a universe of nostalgia and unexpected spells.

Talents is a DVD edition of short films & video works compiled by curator Joanna Chevalier.

This special edition presents a collection of delicious recipes composed by pastry chef Angela Garcia, with drawings by artist Cristina Rodriguez.

This special edition presents a collection of photographs by Joaquin Sarmiento dedicated to the cultural vibrancy and diversity of the Caribbean region of Colombia. This six-year photographic journey (2004-2010) takes us from the remote deserts of La Guajira to the lush landscape around Cartagena.

This issue is published on the occasion of “Trading Futures”, an exhibition curated by Meiya Cheng & Pauline J. Yao held from March 4 - 31, 2012. This will be the final exhibition to take place at TCAC’s temporary home on Yanping South Road in Taipei, Taiwan.

This book is an extensive survey on TCAC that includes interviews with several of the dynamic artists, curators, scholars, and activists who helped establish the association in 2009-2010. The interviews provide rare first person insights into the association’s beginnings, its founding principles, its key challenges, and its undetermined future.

The fifth special edition is a project by Mark Borthwick: in pursuit of nothing more than an original sin to let light in.

"I first met Mark through our common friend Hisham, who invited me to a gathering at Mark’s house. Everyone brought their instruments and played music together. The house was lit with love and we felt it with all our senses. There was no separation between the house, the music, the cooking, the incense, the photographs, the family, and all of us.

In the past year, I have been living mostly in Vietnam. Though this region has a difficult recent history, I am also struck by the freshness of the younger generation and the beauty of this land. I wanted to share this experience through Lovely Daze. I am grateful that Mark agreed to come explore this region of Southeast Asia together with his son Joey and friend Paul. This book is the result of our journey." – Charwei Tsai
